ToFola Project

Tourism in the FOrest and green Lagoons of the Adriatic through historical wooden boats

The project aims to launch sustainable tourism products based on the historical shipbuilding heritage of the Serenissima Republic of Venice.

It seeks to diversify tourism in the Northern Adriatic region and promote under-exploited destinations. The main challenges faced include ensuring equitable access to cultural heritage for different populations and increasing environmental sustainability by redirecting tourist flows.

TOFOLA focuses on the exploitation of the historic forests of Veneto, Friuli Venezia Giulia and Istria to reconstruct traditional boats for tourism purposes.

This initiative aims to achieve:

• The implementation of QR codes for the traceability of wood in the reconstruction of boats.
• Development of digital tools to simplify boat building processes for operators.
• Creation of engineering solutions to improve the accessibility of boats for people with disabilities.
• Design of environmentally friendly propulsion systems for boats to minimize environmental impact.
• Develop easily scalable business models for tourism products linked to historical routes from forests to coastal destinations.

By combining historical heritage with modern innovation, TOFOLA aims to revitalize cultural heritage and promote sustainable tourism across the region.
